ISBN Registration
Registration for ISBN
One of the services we offer at Books By You is ISBN registration. ISBN is an abbreviation for International Standard Book Number, an identifier number for all published books. Without ISBN, there is no chance of cataloguing your books or selling them on a large scale. Hence, the number gives your work a unique identity among other similar books.
Registration for International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is an essential part of your publishing process, although it is not compulsory. Also, an ISBN does not automatically copyright your work but is displayed on the same page as your copyright details. It is used to generate the barcode, often shown at the back of the book.
The 13-digit number also promotes your books at the international level. The number helps to avoid mistakes and is an effective way of handling bibliographic records. The old method usually consumes a lot of energy and time.
At Books By You, we include ISBN registration in your publishing process and demand your details for submission to the National Library of Australia’s online cataloguing file. Their site is accessible through Libraries Australia or Trove websites.
After Publishing, we submit your legal deposit to the NLA (National Library of Australia) through their deposit system to enable a detailed compilation of published materials in Australia for future reference purposes.
We receive a lot of feedback on this service we offer, some of which may answer your questions.

FAQs
Is ISBN Compulsory?
If your book is for commercial purposes or hope for your book to be recognised internationally, you require an ISBN to fulfil this purpose. It is what differentiates your book during the distribution process. It is similar to the details provided on goods at the supermarket in the form of a bar code.
Does ISBN Registration Give Copyright Title?
No, it doesn’t. Copyright and ISBN perform different purposes. Copyright is an IP tool that protects your interest in the book. At the same time, an ISBN is a mere identification number for distinguishing your books on catalogue records and especially useful for commercial purposes.
However, unlike other countries, any material or intelligent product of a person in written form or recorded in a different manner (electronically or not) is automatically protected by copyright laws in Australia. Hence, there is no procedure other than publishing required to have your works copyrighted.
